1. What We Collect
We collect minimal data to operate the service:
- Device fingerprint: A randomly generated identifier stored in your browser, used to track free-tier usage and associate your Pro license. Not linked to your personal identity.
- Usage count: The number of summaries you generate each month, stored on our server to enforce the free tier limit (5 summaries/month).
- License key: If you purchase Pro, your license key is stored on our server and in your browser to verify your subscription.
- Video transcript: When you click "Summarize," we extract the video's caption transcript and send it to our AI provider for processing. The transcript is not stored on our servers.
We do NOT collect:
- Your YouTube watch history or account information
- Personal information (name, email) unless you voluntarily contact support
- Browsing data or tracking cookies
- Analytics or advertising tracking (no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel)
2. How We Use Your Data
- To generate AI summaries of YouTube videos you choose to summarize
- To enforce free-tier usage limits (count only — we do not see which videos you watched)
- To verify your Pro license and unlock paid features
- To maintain an aggregate activity log (video title and timestamp) for operational monitoring — no transcript content is retained
3. Third-Party Services
AI Provider
We use one of the following AI providers to generate your summaries (depending on configuration):
- DeepSeek (deepseek.com) — receives video transcripts to generate summaries. See DeepSeek's Privacy Policy.
- OpenAI (openai.com) — receives video transcripts to generate summaries. OpenAI does not use API data for training. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
- Other providers may include Alibaba Qwen, Moonshot (Kimi), or Anthropic, depending on server configuration.
Payment Provider
- Creem (creem.io) — processes payments and manages license keys. See Creem's Privacy Policy.
- Waffo Pancake — alternative payment processor; receives your order details (email, product, amount) to process the payment. Your payment credentials are handled entirely by Waffo Pancake and never reach our servers.
Database Hosting
Notion Integration (Optional, User-Configured)
- If you use the "Send to Notion" feature, your Notion Integration token is stored locally in your browser and used to create pages in your Notion workspace. This token is never sent to our servers — it goes directly from your browser to Notion's API.
4. Data Retention
- Transcript data: Processed in real-time and immediately discarded — never stored
- Summary content: Stored only in your browser's local storage; not uploaded to our servers
- Usage counts: Stored on our server, reset monthly
- License keys: Stored on our server and in your browser for the duration of your subscription
- Order records: Retained indefinitely for accounting and tax compliance
5. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data:
- All server communication uses HTTPS encryption
- API keys and secrets are stored as environment variables, never in code
- Payment processing is handled entirely by Creem — we never see or store your credit card information
- Notion tokens are stored locally in your browser and transmitted directly to Notion, never through our servers
6. Your Rights
- Access & deletion: You can clear all Sumreel data by removing the extension from Chrome
- Data deletion request: Email help@sumreel.app to request deletion of your server-side data (usage records, license key)
- Free tier: You can use the free tier without providing any personal information
- No account required: Sumreel does not require account registration — your identity is a random device fingerprint
7. Children's Privacy
Sumreel is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of Sumreel after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
